Active Element Foundation
intends to build the institutional capacity that will enhance the
effectiveness of young people engaged in community organizing.
The
Alliance for a Media Literate America is committed
to promoting media literacy education that is focused on critical
inquiry, learning, and skill-building. This national, grassroots
membership organization will be a key force in bringing media literacy
education to all 60 million students in the United States, their
parents, their teachers, and others who care about youth.
gURL.com Created in 1996, gURL's mission is to provide
information about all aspects of young womanhood in an inclusive and
engaging way. Girls love gURL because it is smart, funny, and real about
the issues they are facing in their lives-and it empowers them to
express their true selves. gURL has grown to be the leading website for
teenage girls with special expertise in the areas of community and
interactivity. gURL has received critical acclaim, as well as a New
York Magazine award, a Webby award, and ID Magazine Interactive Media
distinction.
Listen Up! is a national Youth Media Network that helps
youth producers and their adult mentors exchange work, share ideas and
learn from one another. Our mission is to help youth be heard in the
mass media, contributing to a culture of free speech and social
responsibility.
MNN Youth Channel is an alternative to mass media
created to provide equal access to all young people, regardless of
ethnicity, gender, religion, sexual orientation, or social status. The
Youth Channel strives to build confidence, establish role models,
inform, educate, and entertain. It empowers youth to believe they are
capable of creating change within their communities and the world. The
Youth Channel is governed and programmed by youth who want to make a
difference.
The
National Council of Teachers of English is devoted
to improving the teaching and learning of English and the language arts
at all levels of education. Since 1911, NCTE has provided a forum for
the profession, an array of opportunities for teachers to continue their
professional growth throughout their careers, and a framework for
cooperation to deal with issues that affect the teaching of English.
VIDEO MACHETE is a Chicago-based, inter-generational,
collective of cultural workers. We use multi-media, video production,
and alternative press to explore and document the stories and
perspectives of communities that are erased and distorted by mainstream
media. Video Machete is committed to producing cultural work that
addresses real change in our communities and society.
WireTap is the independent information source by and
for socially conscious youth. We showcase investigative news articles,
personal essays and opinions, artwork and activism resources that
challenge stereotypes, inspire creativity, foster dialogue and give
young people a voice in the media. The WireTap Web portal provides a new
generation of writers, artists and activists a space to network,
organize and mobilize.
