YMDi.org is a community Website for young media makers and their educators. Because we care about protecting your privacy when using this site, we have created this privacy policy. We are committed to complying fully with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) of 1998. If you are under 18-years-old, you should check with your parent or guardian before entering any info on any Web site. We encourage parents, guardians and educators to teach youth about releasing their personal info online.
Site Terms of Use
Access to and use of the products and services available through this
site are subject to the following terms and conditions. By using this
site, you are agreeing to the terms and conditions below. We accept no
responsibility or liability for any inaccuracy or errors and omissions.
Our privacy policy applies only to our Web site and may not apply to
other sites. Any harm, economic or otherwise, or injury to people or
property as a result of accessing or using any files, instructions,
methods or ideas contained on this Web site or in the material linked to
from our site is the sole responsibility of the user.
Collection of Info
At YMDi.org, we only ask our users for minimum personal info. We limit
our collection of info to non-personal info (e.g. an online username and
password). We ask for this info when you register as a member and when
you participate in certain online activities (e.g. posting media and
submitting posts on message boards). Sometime, however, YMDi.org may ask
for some personal info (e.g. an e-mail address and mailing address), in
order to keep in touch with our members and run online contests.
Becoming a Member
When you become a member of YMDi.org, we will ask for "required info"
such as your name and e-mail address and ask for "optional info" such as
your interests (which we will use to design user preferences and your
public user profile). If you are under 18-years-old, we are not allowed
to ask for your e-mail address without your parent or guardian’s
permission. Therefore, you will be asked to enter their e-mail instead
of yours. Your parent or guardian will then be contacted with a code
that they will give to you if they grant you permission to become a
member of YMDi.org. You will enter this code as your password the first
time you log-in and then you will be able to change your password.
YMDi.org has the right to end your membership if necessary. Please
update your membership info if your contact info changes.
Unsubscribing
Uncheck the subscribe check-box when you are becoming a member if you
don’t want to get e-mails or mailings from us. You may unsubscribe from
our mailing list and/or end your membership at any time by sending an
e-mail to info@ymdi.org.
Statistical and Survey Info
We may collect statistics about our members so that we can keep track of
our site traffic. Similarly, info collected from surveys on our site
will only be used to figure out how to improve this site and will not be
shared. If you fill out a survey, you may get our newsletter or other
e-mail announcements.
Message Board Postings
By taking part in our online discussions, you grant us permission to
quote you in our advertisements, press kits, or in any way that we see
fit, in any medium. All personal info will be handled according to our
privacy policy. This policy applies both to our main site and to the
Distribution Toolkit message boards.
Cookies and Log Data
“Cookies” are files that your Web browser places on the hard drive of
your computer when you visit a site. Cookies can’t damage your files or
read info from your hard drive. Cookies are used to keep track of
whether you have certain plug-in software applications installed on your
browser. Cookies also allow Web sites to “remember” user activities on a
Web site and when a new person uses the site. At YMDi.org, we use
cookies to figure out how many unique visitors to our Web site there are
over a given period of time and to remember your username so that you
don’t have to log-in over and over again. We don’t store any personal
info into cookies and we don’t link or combine info collected through
cookies to any personal info that you submit online when participating
in our activities. You can, of course, disable cookies on your computer
by going into the preferences or options menu in your browser.
Log data is info collected on Web servers by YMDi.org’s service provider and by our third party service provider, which is required to collect this data confidentially. Log data gives YMDi.org info about the number of visits to different pages on our site. YMDi.org uses this info from visitors’ browsers and operating systems to make our site content available to as many people as possible. We don’t link the log data collected to the personal info that you submit online when participating in our activities.
Display of Uploaded Media
If you are a member of YMDI.org, you are able upload your media to our
Web site. When media is displayed on this site, there is a description
of the work that includes contact info for the producer. If you are
under 18-years-old, you cannot list your own contact info. Instead, you
are required to provide the contact info for the media center where you
produced your work if applicable or contact info of your parent or
guardian. YMDi.org will not use or display the works of individuals
under 18-years-old without the consent of a parent or guardian. We want
to promote the work of youth under the age of 18, so please be sure to
have your media center or parents give the proper information. Your
parent or guardian’s e-mail address will only be used to contact them to
get their consent for you to become a member and to display your media.
Their e-mail will be deleted from our system after the e-mail request
is sent.
Contests
if you are 12 years old and under you can enter online contests by
providing minimal personal info. YMDi.org may ask for your first name,
e-mail address, and the e-mail address of a parent or guardian, who will
be contacted by e-mail and given the chance to confirm your
participation or withdraw you from the contest. In this case, all the
info collected by YMDi.org is used only for conducting the contest. Once
the contest is finished, we then delete any personal info collected.
Use of Info
YMDi.org may use your personal info for contacting you or your parents,
guardians or educators about our Web site activities, such as contests
and to contact parents or guardians to permit you to become a member and
upload media. YMDi.org does not give your personal info to any third
parties unless we are required by law or if it is pertinent to judicial
or government investigations or proceedings, or otherwise necessary to
protect our Web site or the safety of it’s users.
Security & Parental Access
At YMDi.org, one of our goals is to help parents ensure that their kids
have a safe and fun online experience. That's why we've set up a system
by which parents can print out and mail or fax us a signed form that
allows them to review any personal info collected about their child and
ask us to correct any factual inaccuracies, delete this info, and/or
request that we refrain from further collection or use of their child's
info. YMDi.org has taken steps to ensure that any info we collect on
YMDi.org is secure by, among other things, limiting the number of people
who have physical access to our database servers, using electronic
security systems, and using password protections which guard against
unauthorized access. Other Web sites that we may link to are governed by
their own privacy policies or info collection practices, which may be
substantially different from ours. We encourage visitors to other Web
sites to review the privacy policies and info collection practices of
those Web sites. YMDi.org encourages parents, guardians and educators to
talk with youth about online safety and to monitor their activities
online. The YMDi.org Web site is intended for domestic visitors and is,
consequently, specifically directed towards residents of the United
States.
