Students and other young people are gearing up to participate in a National Day of Action to provide opportunity for all, this Thursday, January 11. They are calling on Congress, as a first step, to pass legislation, proposed by Speaker Nancy Pelosi, to cut interest rates in half for Stafford student loans. That step alone would save the average borrower $4,400 dollars in college loan payments.

Also, be sure to watch Campus Progress's groundbreaking videos on student debt. One of those videos is entered in this month's Huffington Post competition - click here http://debthitshard-burden.cf.huffingtonpost.com/ to watch it and vote for it. If we win, you could win a college scholarship.
We also invite you to join us at an event with Senators Edward Kennedy (MA) and Dick Durbin (IL) and Representative George Miller (CA), this Thursday, January 11, 2 pm, 2175 Rayburn House Office Bldg. in Washington, D.C. in support of this effort.
